Retreat.
Renew.
Replenish.
A space for rest and gathering.
Surrounded by 136 acres of forest and open sky, Mabel’s Rest provides communal space for individuals to gather and take pause, learn, create or facilitate. Grounded in equity, we invite individuals and communities doing the work of building a better world to come together in intentional connection to land and the rhythms of nature as a source of replenishment. Here, there is room to move and room to be still.
Reverence. Awareness. Wonder.
Mabel’s Rest welcomes a range of gatherings. We invite applications that demonstrate a clear commitment to healing and racial and economic justice, and that approach our space with care, inclusivity, and respect.
Our one request is to pack your Reverence, Awareness, and Wonder for yourself, others, the land, and the unseen forces that support us all here in our sacred work.
Fire
Gather around the stone firepit for outdoor evenings, storytelling and stargazing amidst the wildlife.
Water
Seasonal salt water pool, 4-person sauna and outdoor shower surrounded by mountain-fed streams and a pond.
Earth
Hiking trails, diverse plant life, weathered stone walls, and quiet spaces for reflection across 136 acres of forest.
Napanoch, NY
The name “Napanoch” is believed to come from a Native American word meaning “land of walnuts,” Mabel’s Rest sits on the ancestral land of the Esopus, part of the Lenape people, who moved with these forests, waters, and seasons long before us. We acknowledge their presence here, past and ongoing.
Napanoch sits at the edge of the Shawangunk Mountains in the Hudson Valley, with easy access to the cliffs, waterfalls, and forest trails of Minnewaska State Park Preserve. Nearby Ellenville adds a touch of small-town culture, while scenic drives, farm stands, and vineyards make it an easy base for exploring.
